Petteri Koponen: Our NT has shown great results13 september 2012

Our call found BC Khimki rookie Petteri Koponen at the hotel of the city of Laktasi where our team will have a friendly tournament. Petteri told us about Eurobasket-2013 qualifying round and described how he was adopted by his new teammates.

Petteri, now you are really in BC Khimki. Congratulations.

– Thank you. I joined my new team in Zagreb airport, and then we went to Bosnia, where we will play a friendly tournament. I've had time to talk to the guys, coaching staff and personnel. All of them are very friendly and amiable people. I'm sure there will be no problems. I've already realized that the atmosphere within the team is great. I've spoken to Rimas Kurtinaitis a little bit, he is a very interesting person.

As early as yesterday (we spoke on September 12, 2012 — notice) you played in Finnish NT jersey with Switzerland and tonight you are going to have first training with BC Khimki. Are you tired?

– A little bit. But such is the fate of the athlete. On the other hand, I will be in the game tone. Besides Russian guys have to go to Russia (to meet the Moscow Region Governor Sergei Shoigu – notice), so probably I have to play in the upcoming tournament. I'll try to give the energy to my club. The coaching staff will decide. As for me, I'm ready.

What can you say about your NT performance at Eurobasket-2013 QR? Are you satisfied with the results?

– We’ve done a great job and shown excellent results. We wanted to enter Eurobasket very much. Perhaps we had not a very strong group, but we suffered two defeats, so the opponents were stronger. I am glad I was of benefit of my country. Now it’s time to focus on the playing for BC Khimki.

The season starts soon. Are you excited to play in the Euroleague?

– For sure, I am. I’m waiting impatiently for the debut in my new team. BC Khimki is a great club, the roster is strong, and the guys are friendly. I am confident I will make progress with the team, it’s a step forward for me. Of course, I’ve to adjust and accommodate myself to Russia but I’m not afraid of the difficulties. I’ll get used to everything new.
