RC. B Division. From bad to worse 1 march 2007

Khimki 2, the youth team for BC Khimki, faced off in two away double games with opponents diametrically opposite on the tournament table: one of the B Division’s favorites, BC Soyuz de Zarechny and the other an outsider, Standart 2, from Tolyatti. All games were challenging: in the fourth match (a rematch against the Samara Region club) two overtimes were needed to define the winner.

On the roster for the City of Zarechny club, two ex Khimki players were listed: guard Oleg Ten and the pivot George Glatsov , both leaders in their group.

Head Coach Valery SIZOV:

— During the first match we were making baskets, but couldn’t gain on the opponent. Both teams achieved a big percentage of hits. The final quarter slipped out of our hands. In the second match just the opposite happened, we gave a good defense but missed simple opportunities, from the perimeter without any resistenc, inside shots… All the same the opponent was tough thanks to their players with a lot of perimeter shot experience, among them Ten, and the pivots, such as Glatsov. Coupled with this, the team puts up a tough defense.

Standart 2 vs. Khimki 2

Day One: 66-75 (20-23, 10-15, 13-17, 23-20).
Top Scorers: Sukhinin (18 + 5 assists + 3 steals), Yakovenko (15), Gubanov (14 + 4 assists + 7 rebounds), Pavlov (11 + 13 rebounds);
Karaulov (18 + 12 rebounds + 4 blocks);

Day Two: 90-92 (19-12, 14-30, 14-13, 21-13, 10-10, 12-14) 2 ОТ.
Top Scorers: Nikitchenko (23), Pavlov (18 + 9 rebounds + 3 assists + 5 steals), Sukhinin (17 + 9 assists + 5 steals), Yakovenko (10 + 9 rebounds + 5 assists + 2 steals), Gubanov (10 + 5 rebounds);
Karaulov (17 + 13 rebounds).

SIZOV:

— With the absence of Sergey Karaulov, the six of us were winning easily. He knows us and has already adapted to the new team. At the end of regular time, Mozgov didn’t block Sergey, as the opponent made one in from the charity line, and Karaulov caught it on the rebound. Later, he scored 2 decisive points. They broke the course of the game, and tried to change the results. On top of it, this happened when we had too many fouls. All the same, the game quality was notable, although it was the fourth most difficult game played.
