Post-game quotes

Pablo Laso, Real Madrid head coach:

“I congratulate Khimki on this victory. They played very well in the first half. They dominated on the boards in the beginning of the game and were able to take more shots. They had an advantage in the first half. I think we improved in the second half defensively and did better things that was not enough to come back in the game. You see the numbers that very clear show the difference on the offensive rebounds. Khimki had 15 offensive rebounds; that meant 15 more possessions. And also our turnovers. If you permit the other team to get 15 rebounds and you turn the ball over 17 times it’s very difficult to win the game. We just have started the Euroleague and it was our first game. It was a good lesson to learn from the first day".

Sergio Rodriguez, Real Madrid guard:

“We are going through difficult times in the beginning of the season. We knew Khimki’s playing very well as they have a great team. They will be one of the candidates for first place in the group. Obviously we were not ready for the game tonight and we have to improve a lot to get better. Khimki will fight with each team they face. I think we will change and become better for sure. Their toughness was a key for them. During the game they were stronger than us as Khimki played with intensity”.

Rimas Kurtinaitis, BC Khimki head coach:

“For sure I’m happy that we’ve won today because we beat a really strong team, a reigning Euroleague champion. We have a new team that came to the Euroleague this season and it was very important to start from a win. I would like to thank my guys for their effort and energy that they gave on the court. I’m really happy".

Egor Vyaltsev, BC Khimki guard:

“Real is a strong team, the reigning Euroleague champion, but the season has just started and you have to prove that you are the best one. It’s a long [road] and we’ll see who will win in the end. Today we played at home and did it well as we had a great scouting on Real. I would like to thank all the guys and especially our fans that supported us perfectly. I suppose the key for this win is our defense as Real is a very talented offensive team. They have many players who may determine the outcome of the game as their names speak about themselves. Today is was a great team defense as we had to stop fast plays. Usually they make many transitions from defense to the offense, but we managed to stop them”.
