Russian Championship. BC Khimki — Ural-Great — 108-80 3 january 2009

In first match in 2009 BC Khimki played at home against “Ural-Great” Perm. The starting spurt of yellow-blue crashed the opponent. BC Khimki won, scoring more than 100 points – for the first time this season — 108-80 (33-19, 32-17, 15-29, 28-15). Next match our team will play away in Eurocup in France against “Le Havre” on 6th of January.

In entry list were 10 players. Maciej Lampe came back to team after treatment, but he didn’t take part in match. The head coach Sergio Scariolo said that he is not ready enough to play. In some week he will return on the court. BC Khimki starting five was: Palacio, Fridzon, McCarty, Garbajosa, Mozgov.

Our team started the match aggressive and very fast. On the 2 minute BC Khimki lead 8-2 and played very carefully in defense and offense. In second period the advantage of home team became 20 points. Only after long break “Ural-Great” started to offer resistance and cut the lead. But in last period Khimki restored the status quo. The 100 point scored Mozgov 2 minutes before the final buzzer.

— We worked hard this week. And at first half of match we played with intensity. We have no “physical” problems. We have an aim – to improve in mentality and to be concentrated during 40 minutes. At least, I am satisfied with first half, we played aggressively in defense and offense.
