Shved starts hot but rebounding raises Reds 13 october 2018

Last season’s Top Scorer Trophy winner Alexey Shved got off to another flying start on Friday, firing 34 points in Khimki Moscow Region’s 66-87 home loss to Olympiacos Piraeus.
It was the second-highest scoring night of his EuroLeague career, only coming second to his previous appearance: Game 4 of the playoffs series against CSKA Moscow at the end of last season, when he tallied 36 points. On this occasion 24 of Shved’s points came from downtown (8-of-16), giving him the joint fifth-highest total of triples in a game this century, and his total of 34 points meant that Shved scored more than half his team’s total (51.5%).
But in terms of deciding the game, Shved’s shooting feats were overshadowed by two more statistics. Firstly, Olympiacos had a huge edge in rebounding, claiming 38 to just 20 for the home team. One clear indication of the gulf between the teams in that key aspect of the game is the fact that Olympiacos big man Nikola Milutinov grabbed more offensive boards (6) than the entire Khimki team (5). Secondly, Khimki only gained two points from bench players in the entire game, with a fourth quarter lay-up from Charles Jenkins being the only basket from non-starters. With stats like that, it’s clear why one player enjoying a near-record three-point shooting night by no means guarantees victory.
