Shved, Gill lead Khimki to fifth win 11  november  2017

Khimki Moscow Region confirmed its great momentum in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague by rallying from a double-digit deficit to edge Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz 91-90 at home on Friday.
Khimki improved to 5-1 in the standings while Baskonia dropped to 1-5. Anthony Gill and Alexey Shved led the winners with 20 points apiece. James Anderson added 18 while Stefan Markovic had 15 for Khimki. Matt Janning led Baskonia with 19 points. Toko Shengelia and Johannes Voigtmann each added 14, Vincent Poirier had 12, Marcelinho Huertas got 11 while Jayson Granger dished 11 assists for the guests. Gill led an 8-1 opening run but Poirier and Rodrigue Beaubois soon allowed Baskonia to get its first lead, 13-14. Janning stepped up to boost his team's lead to 18-21 after 10 minutes. Another triple by Janning made Khimki call timeout at 22-30. A three-point play by Shved brought Khimki within 32-35 but Beaubois, Huertas and Janis Timma struck from downtown for a 40-48 Baskonia lead at halftime. Khimki improved its defense after the break and an alley-oop layup by Charles Jenkins tied the game, 61-61, late in the third quarter. A three-pointer by Huertas restored a 61-64 Baskonia edge after 30 minutes. Shved shined in crunch time but free throws by Janning kept Baskonia within 85-84 with 16.5 seconds left. Free throws by Shved and Gill allowed Khimki to stay out of trouble until the final buzzer.

Anderson struck from downtown and Gill followed a reverse layup with a triple to give Khimki an early 8-1 lead. Beaubois buried a three-pointer and Poirier added a couple of dunks but Charles Jenkins and Malcolm Thomas kept the hosts in charge, 12-8. Another dunk by Poirier and free throws by Rinalds Malmanis gave Baskonia its first lead, 13-14. Anderson took over with a three-point play but Voigtmann downed a jumper and Janning followed a layup with a triple for an 18-21 Baskonia lead after 10 minutes. Huertas hit a triple and Janning added two more from beyond the arc to make Khimki call timeout at 22-30. Thomas Robinson and Markovic stepped up for Khimki and a three-point play by Shved brought the hosts within 32-45. A layup by Huertas sparked a 0-7 run which Beaubois capped with a bomb from downtown to make it a double-digit game, 32-42. Huertas and Timma buried respective triples but Egor Vialtsev and Markovic kept Khimki within 40-48 at halftime.

Anderson followed a jumper with a three-point play soon after the break and Gill struck from downtown to bring Khimki within 51-53. Voigtmann and Janning nailed back-to-back triples to give Baskonia fresh air at 53-61. Markovic hit free throws and Anderson added consecutive layups in a 0-8 run that Jenkins capped with an alley-oop basket for a 61-61 tie. Huertas answered from beyond the arc for a 61-64 Baskonia lead after 30 minutes. Gill followed a backdoor layup with a triple and Shved also struck from downtown to complete Khimki's comeback, 70-69, early in the fourth quarter. Markovic joined the three-point shootout and Anderson added a layup-plus-foul for a 76-71 score. Voigtmann and Beaubois kept Baskonia within 80-78 but Shved shined with a three-point play for an 85-78 Khimki lead. Shengelia hit a three-pointer and Janning added free throws for an 85-84 Baskonia deficit with 16.5 seconds left. Shved hit four free throws in crunch time and Gill added two more to seal Khimki's win, as Granger's three-point shot was too little, too late for the guests.

Both teams return to EuroLeague action on Tuesday — Baskonia hosts Real Madrid and Khimki faces Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens in the Greek capital.
