PAOK Thessaoliniki veteran Kostas Charalampidis will remain away from action for three to four months following the serious knee injury he suffered a little before the end of the game against Stelmet Zielona Gora in Poland on Tuesday, his club announced.
The 38-year-old Charalampidis, who is PAOK's team captain, went to the Interbalkan Medical Center accompanied by the GM Nikos Stavropoulos, team manager Telis Zournatsidis and physical therapist Giorgos Tsoukalas immediately upon arriving home to Thessaloniki on Wednesday. Following an MRI, the head of PAOK's medical staff, Kostas Samaras, diagnosed that the player had suffered a total rupture of the patellar tendon. Charalampidis will undergo reconstructive knee surgery on Friday and will remain inactive for an estimated three to four months, the club announced.

No sooner was Charalampidis injured than PAOK BC decided to activate the second-season option on his contract, which means that despite his condition, the player will remain with the club through the end of the 2015-16 season. The decision for the imminent renewal of the contract was announced to Charalampidis by the President Bane Prelevic during a phone conversation upon the team's arrival Wednesday.

"All the team members were in support of our team captain since the first moment of his injury and we all wish him strength so that he overcomes this obstacle and returns even stronger," the club said in a statement.

Charalampidis was averaging 9.7 points through the first seven games of the Eurocup Regular Season, matching his scoring over five previous seasons in the competition between 2004 and last season.
