BC Khimki downed 75-65 previously undefeated CSKA Moscow on Saturday to become the exclusive leader of the Russian League with 5-1 record. Sergey Monya led the winners with 19 points and 8 rebounds against his former team.
Milos Teodosic capped a 6-18 run for the guests late in the first quarter, but a three-pointer by Egor Vyaltsev gave a 25-23 advantage to Khimki, which hung on to lead 30-29 at halftime. Jamont Gordon from long distance put CSKA on top 40-41 midway through the third quarter. Monya and Lavrinovic exchanged triples to make it 51-48 after 30 minutes. Monya capped an 8-0 run and raised the difference to the double digits, 59-48, early in the fourth quarter and the home team never looked back. Vitaly Fridzon bagged 12 points and Zoran Planinic added 10 for Khimki. Nenad Krstic led for CSKA with 15 points and Teodosic, Viktor Khryapa and Gordon added 11 apiece. Spartak St. Petersburg raised its record to 3-2 by edging Enisey at the end of a balanced game. Patrick Beverley nailed 26 points, Yotam Halperin chipped in 14, Loukas Mavrokefalides had 11 and Miha Zupan 10. Vladimir Dragicevic gave a 68-57 margin to Spartak early in the fourth quarter. Lonny Baxter clawed Enisey back within 70-68 with 36 seconds remaining, but Beverley scored from beyond the arc to get within 79-74 and Halperin was perfect from the foul line to seal the win. Lokomotiv-Kuban suffered another defeat, 89-83, against Triumph Lyubertsy after an extra time. Two free throws by Jeremiah Massey sent the game to overtime. Ali Traore gave a 76-79 cushion to Lokomotiv, but after Tywain McKee put Triumph in front on 81-79, the hosts never looked back. Davon Jefferson led the winners with 25 points and McKee added 24, while Ali Traore had 17 and Massey and Nikita Shabalkin 14 apiece for Lokomotiv.
