BC Khimki won both games when these teams last met in the 2012 Regular Season.
Chris Singleton played under current BC Khimki coach Georgios Bartzokas and was a teammate of BC Khimki forward Andrey Zubkov at Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar in the 2015/2016 season. They reached the EuroLeague Final Four together.
Panathinaikos swingman Matt Lojeski played under current BC Khimki head coach Gerogios Bartzokas at Olympiacos Piraeus during the 2013/2014 campaign.
Panathinaikos center Ian Vougiouskas and his BC Khimki counterpart Dmitry Sokolov were teammates at UNICS Kazan during the 2013/2014 season, and they reached EuroCup Finals together.
Sokolov scored a career-best 17 points and posted his career high in index rating with 23 playing for CSKA Moscow against Panathinaikos in December of 2010.
Vougioukas and BC Khimki forward Andrey Zubkov were teammates at Lokomotiv Kuban Kransodar last season.
James Anderson of BC Khimki and Lukas Lekavicius of Panathinaikos were teammates at Zalgiris Kaunas during the 2014/2015 season.
Panathinaikos forward K.C. Rivers made his EuroLeague debut for BC Khimki in the 2012/2013 season. He was a teammate of current BC Khimki players Sergey Monya and Egor Vyaltsev.
Georgios Bartzokas, BC Khimki head coach:
“We have to consider that during the year, at home, Panathinaikos loses games very rarely. So, everybody understands how difficult is our mission over there, especially without Honeycutt and Gill. Right now, they are playing with confidence, after their win in Piraeus over Olympiacos. Of course, there are a lot of problems that Panathinaikos is creating to the opponents, basically playing in the lineup with Gist and Singleton as two forwards, who are so mobile. We have to play well if we want to win. We need to be very stable and consistent for forty minutes on both end, defensively and offensively. OAKA is a very warm arena but we just need to focus on the game”.
Malcolm Thomas, BC Khimki forward:
“They are a top team with veteran EuroLeague players. They know how to play together. We can’t have a first half like we did last game vs. Baskonia because they know how to execute and we might not be able to pick it up if we come out slow. So, definitely we have to start the game strongly and focused, executing our plays. I’ve never played at Panathinaikos arena but heard a lot about it from our coaches and players. I’ve heard the atmosphere is crazy but we have to go to block it out and just focus on the game”.
