Khimki blows up in fourth quarter to force Game 3 4  march  2017

Khimki Moscow Region lives to fight another day in the 7DAYS EuroCup Quarterfinals after pulling away strong to beat visiting Valencia Basket 98-74 on the road Friday in Game 2 of their best-of-three series.
Game 3 to decide a semifinalist between these multiple former EuroCup champions will be next Wedneday in Valencia. Alexey Shved neared a triple double for the winners with 17 points, 11 assists and 8 rebounds, breaking open the game with a lot of big shots in the fourth quarter, which Khimki won 29-12. Jacob Pullen led Khimki with 18 points while Dmitriy Sokolov was huge with 16, Robbie Hummel added 14 and E.J. Rowland had 10. Joan Sastre was Valencia's top gun with 18 points, while Bojan Dubljevic had 17 and Will Thomas 10.

Dubljevic and Fernando San Emeterio got Valencia off to a 0-4 start before Markel Brown's free throws and assist to Marko Todorovic evened the score. Luke Sikma and Sastre combined on 6 points but Khimki's free throws kept it within 8-10. Sokolov came in and tied it before Hummel gave Khimki its first lead 14-12. Sam Van Rosson got it back for Valencia from downtown, but Sokolov had the last word as Khimki led 18-15 after 10 minutes. Fastbreaks by Shved and Pullen, the latter's three-pointer and the former's feed to Sokolov for a dunk lengthened the difference to 27-20. The big man kept it rolling with a three-point play to make it 30-22. Rowland and Shved kept the hosts safe, the latter with a big reverse slam and a pair of assists at 40-31. Guillem Vives revived Valencia with a swish from downtown but Shved and Sokolov kept pushing the hosts to a 45-41 halftime lead.

Out of the break an exchange of free throws ended with Sastre hitting a go-ahead triple for Valendia at 47-48. But Khimki responded with Hummel from outside and Todorovic inside to re-take a 52-48 advantage. Sokolov and Hummel kept Khimki's momentum on the way to Rowland's fastbreak layup making it 64-57. When Pullen buried a triple, Khimki had its biggest lead of the night, 68-58. Pierre Oriola got a couple baskets back to reduce the difference to 69-62 after 30 minutes. Sokolov opened the fourth quarter with a dunk and from there the hosts gor more and more confidence, as Shved fed Hummel for corner triple to make it 80-66. Shved came along with another pair of long triples and assisted Hummel again as the lead topped 20 points, 92-70 with less than 3 minutes to play and both teams started turning their attention to a series-deciding Game 3 next Wednesday.
