Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari of Italy put a shot of athleticism in its backcourt on Tuesday by signing swingman Rakim Sanders for the team's first-ever Turkish Airlines Euroleague season.
Sanders (1.93 meters, 25 years old) made a solid Euroleague debut last season with Brose Baskets Bamberg. He averaged 7.9 points and 3.2 rebounds in 17 minutes over 10 regular season games. When Bamberg moved to the Eurocup's Last 32 phase, his numbers rose to 12.5 points plus 1.7 steals and 1.5 assists. In both competitions, he shot better than 45% from three-point distance. He had his best Eurocup scoring performance against Dinamo Sassari, with 17 points in 29 minutes. Prior to last season, Sanders had split his university career between Boston College and Fairfield before debuting as a pro with Galil Gilboa of Israel for the 2012-13 season.
