Euroleague Basketball has announced that the 2011-12 Eurocup season’s crowning event, the Eurocup Finals, will take place in Russia for the first time ever, as Khimki will host the event on April 14 and 15, 2012. The newest Eurocup champion will be crowned at the 5,000-seat Basketball Center of Moscow Region, the homecourt of Eurocup powerhouse BC Khimki. The two-day, four-team tournament will feature semifinals on Saturday, April 14 leading to the next day's title game, whose winner will not only lift the Eurocup trophy, but also qualify for the 2012-13 Turkish Airlines Euroleague!
The Eurocup celebrates a decade of elite continental basketball this season and Khimki becomes the fifth city to host the competition’s pinnacle moment since the Eurocup moved to a single-game final format in 2003. The title game was held four times, between 2004 and 2007, in Charlerloi, Belgium. In 2008 and 2009, the Eurocup Final Eight took place in Turin, Italy. Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, hosted the event in 2010 and Treviso, Italy was home of the 2011 Eurocup Finals.

The Basketball Center of Moscow Region — also known as Novator Indoor Arena — was opened in 1970 and renovated in 2010, to add more seats and amenities. It hosted BC Khimki's Euroleague home games in the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons, when the club welcomed powerhouses like Partizan mt:s, Maccabi Electra, Caja Laboral, Panathinaikos, Real Madrid and Olympiacos, among many others. The last time a team won a European competition on Russian soil was back in 2005, when Maccabi Electra lifted the Euroleague trophy at Olympiskiy Arena in Moscow.

Besides the modern sports hall, the complex includes two practice courts, a VIP area for 164 seats, a modern press center, a conference hall and a video studio, among other facilities. Its sound quality and lightning allows Novator to be used as a multi-purpose arena, too. Tickets for the Eurocup Finals will go on sale later in this season.

Jordi Bertomeu, Euroleague President and CEO:

I’m honored to announce that the 2012 Eurocup Finals will be held at Basketball Center Khimki Moscow Region from April 14 to 15. We are proud that the tenth Eurocup final will take place in Russia, a country with great basketball tradition. We made this decision reasoning from the long-lived experience of cooperation with BC Khimki and I’m proud of this fact. I would like to pay special gratitude to BC Khimki General Manager Mr. Victor Bychkov.

The Eurocup is the second European tournament, but that doesn't mean it is not important. In the Eurocup there are always Euroleague-level teams participating. This competition features a lot of participants, 19 countries, it’s a huge territory and for us it’s very important to be there. Last year due to TV broadcasting Eurocup arrived to 84 countries. Khimki is a club of a very high level and I’m dead sure that the 2012 Eurocup Finals will also feature a high level. So, now we have a great event that will take place in Khimki.

Victor Bychkov, BC Khimki General Manager:

We are glad to welcome Mr. Bertomeu to Khimki and solemnly announce that the 2012 Eurocup Finals will be held in Khimki Moscow Region, Russia. During several years Khimki has been one of the best Russian clubs, moreover, we have experience in holding such sports events, for instance the Russian Cup Final and other tournaments. For sure, we face an event of such level for the first time. I'm sure all the club’s officials and staff will do their best for a successful event.

In all tournaments Khimki’s main sponsor is Promsvyazbank. Now it’s early to speak about the distribution of financial commitments. We try to find responsible, competent and qualified people who will take the appropriate liability. We work with our partners and we appreciate their support and attention.
