PBL Round 15: Unics Kazan defeats Khimky in overtime 26  february  2011

Khimky (#2) forced the game against Unics Kazan (#1) into an overtime, but lost by nine points 66-75 on Saturday night.
It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Khimky. Khimky was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 7-point lead after three quarters before a 21-14 charge of Unics Kazan, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 15-6. Unics Kazan made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Khimky helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for Polish-Swedish center Maciej Lampe (210-85) who led his team to a victory with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Croatian guard Marko Popovic (185-82, college: S.Idaho JC) contributed with 13 points and 7 assists for the winners. American swingman Keith Langford (193-83, college: Kansas) answered with 21 points for Khimky. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Unics Kazan have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 11-3 record. Khimky at the other side dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. Unics Kazan are looking forward to face Spartak St.Petersburg (#5) on the road in the next round. Khimky will play against BC Nizhny Novgorod and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.

BC Nizhny Novgorod's coach Zoran Lukic allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Nikita Shabalkin (205-86) with 18 points. BC Nizhny Novgorod (5-10) moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Krasnie Krilya. Dynamo Moscow at the other side dropped to the bottom position with 11 games lost. BC Nizhny Novgorod will play against higher ranked Khimky (#4) in Khimki in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Dynamo Moscow will play at home against Triumph Lyubertsy (#9) in Lubertsy and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Spartak St.Petersburg maintains fifth place with 9-6 record. Spartak St.Petersburg will meet at home league's leader Unics Kazan in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Lokomotiv moved-up to second place, which they share with CSKA. Enisey Krasnoyarsk at the other side keeps the sixth position with eight games lost. Lokomotiv's next round opponent will be league's second-placed CSKA Moscow at home and it will be for sure the game of the week. Enisey Krasnoyarsk will play against Krasnie Krilya (#8) in Samara and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

No shocking result in a game when third ranked CSKA Moscow (10-5) crushed at home 8th ranked Triumph Lyubertsy (4-10) 90-62. It looked good early as Triumph Lyubertsy took an 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then CSKA Moscow took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 28 points.
