A well-known big man making his mark with a Eurocup newcomer has taken the Week 5 MVP honor as Jeremiah Massey put Lokomotiv-Kuban on the brink of Last 16 qualification with a huge home win. Massey dominated inside as Lokomotiv walloped visiting Gran Canaria 2014 by 73-51 on Tuesday to take over first place in Group E.
Massey was everywhere for Lokomotiv, amassing team highs of 16 points, 14 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks to go with 3 assists and 4 fouls drawn. It all added up to a performance index rating of 28, best among all Eurocup players this week. Following him in second place for Week 5 was Dominic James of Aris B.S.A. 2003 with an index rating of 27 based on his 28 points and 4 assists in a losing cause against Nymburk. Ahmad Nivins of Dexia Mons-Hainaut came next with a 26 index rating, 19 points and 9 rebounds despite a road loss at Alba Berlin. Fourth-best for Week 9 was Ludovic Vaty, with a rating of 16 as he had 20 points and 7 rebounds for still-undefeated BCM Gravelines Dunkerque. And fifth was Vladimir Dragicevic, who helped keep Spartak St. Petersburg unbeaten with 16 points and a 25 performance index rating.

Massey also leads the Eurocup in average index rating, at 22.8, after five games. James of Aris was Week 5's top scorer with 28 points, while Fabien Causeur of Cholet is the overall leader at 20.8 points per game. Massey was the biggest presence on the boards this week with his 14 rebounds and leads the competition overall with 10.4 per game. DaShaun Wood of Alba Berlin had the most assists, 9, as his team routed Dexia Mons-Hainaut, and he is the season leader so far, too, at 6.8 per game. Marcus Goree of PAOK and Adas Juskevicius of Rudupis shared the top steals total, 4, this week. Massey is the league leader with 3 on average. Jarvis Varnado's 7 blocks couldn't prevent Hapoel Jerusalem from losing at home to Donetsk and being eliminated. Sam Muldrow of Aris is the blocks leader with 2.8 per game. In addition to Massey, his Lokomotiv teammate Ali Traori (14 points and 11 rebounds), Petr Benda of Nymburk (14 and 13), Ivan Radenovic of Donetsk (11 and 10), and Antanas Kavaljauskas of Riga (11 and 10) all had double-doubles in Week 5.
