Alexander Boloshev died16 july 2010

Prominent Russian basketball player, the 1972 Olympic Games winner, honoured master of sports, the legend of Soviet sport, and BC Khimki General Director Deputy Alexander Boloshev died at the age of 63 on July, 16 after a long illness. We lost a great sportsman and a wonderful person.

ALEXANDER BOLOSHEV (March 12, 1947 – July 16, 2010)

The life of Alexander Boloshev was a truly remarkable. He played for such basketball clubs as Spartak (Moscow Region, 1963–1964), Dynamo (Volgograd, 1965–1968), Dynamo (Moscow, 1969–1980). One of the creators of the unforgettable victory of the Soviet basketball team at the Olympic Games in 1972, Boloshev also won the World Championship in 1974, he became a silver medalist of World Championship in 1978, twice he was a European champion (in 1969 and 1971), he was a bronze medalist of European Championship in 1973, the champion of the World Student Games–1970, a three-time bronze medalist of the USSR Championships in 1975, 1976 and 1980, and also he became a winner of the sports and athletics meetings of the USSR in 1971, 1975 and 1979. The legendary basketball player was rewarded with the medals “For Labour Valour” and “For services to the Motherland” (3d degree). In 2006 Boloshev received the Gratitude “For the great contribution to the development of national basketball and high athletic achievement” from the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

In 1980 after finishing his playing career Boloshev was invited to the women’s team of Dynamo (Moscow). Two years later he became its head coach. Later he was working for 14 years in the men’s team of Dynamo as Superior until the collapse of the famous club.

Alexander Boloshev was terrifically devoted to the game, he worked to the benefit of the Russian basketball since 1999 as BC Khimki General Director Deputy, where from his first days he became a significant figure. His experience and authority in the basketball world helped Khimki grow, prosper and win. He was an iconic personality for young players as well.

Alexander Boloshev will forever remain in our memory and hearts as a kind and responsive man, ready to help and support at any moment. We express our thankfulness, love and respect to this wonderful man.
